Fourth month as Volunteer in Romania

Imagine
The new year arrived and I am reflecting about everything I did in the previous year, on all the learning achievements and I am defining all the things I want to do this year. I try to organise my mind and my time, so I will learn as much as possible and I rely as always, on the help of my mentor Dragoş, Mihaela, the coordinator of my EVS project, and of course, on the help of Alin, my Romanian teacher, who I say sorry cause I still can't pronounce correct ă and â. January was the month of organising and planning the projects of the year, so before doing that I did a fast journey to Cluj Napoca. I visited the city center, museums, and Salina Turda, a place that was used to export salt. I sailed with a small boat inside that place and it was so captivating to be inside the earth in the dark with my boat and just to row! After charging my batteries I returned to my base, in Tîrgu Frumos and we started to organise the projects that we will do at the youth center with the other v

Why I became volunteer? 4 reasons

Imagine
While I was looking at my things, I found a paper on which I had written my 2018 New Year resolution. I felt proud of myself because I succeed in most of the things that were written on the list, especially for the first and the second one, to do volunteering and to travel. I was looking at how I can do that and I found the answer, I had to do an EVS. It was something I definitely wanted to do in my life. And I was lucky because I met the right people, at the right place. So I am doing a 12 months long EVS in Tîrgu Frumos, Iaşi, Romania with Asirys - Super Tineri and I would like to share some reasons why everyone should do an EVS. 1. You will improve your English and learn a new language. I speak everyday in English with my coordonator, local volunteers and locals, in general, but in the same time, I have a Romanian Teacher with whom I do course regular provided by Asirys and also I have online classes provided by Erasmus +. 2. You will meet new people . During my EVS, I met f

What a nice year was the 2018! With the ups and down. With a lot of new things I learnt, new friends, new places. The year passed so fast, especially these last 3 months, that I started my EVS here in Romania. It's almost the 1/3 part of the time I will spent here, doing my EVS and I feel I learnt and done so many things that I couldn't even imagine in my pre-EVS life. And all of these thanks to Mihaela, the project coordinator, Dragoş, my mentor and Alin, my Romanian Language Teacher.  Starting with this month, December, we made with some others volunteers of our organisation Asirys, a plan for presentation in Petru Rareş technological school, in Tîrgu Frumos. We visited the school and we talked with almost 200 students and their teachers about our NGO, about non-formal methods of education and about volunteering. We created a program that is called "Fapte Bune" (Good acts) in which the students are invited do some good things for their school, colleagues, teach

Testimonial: My Forum Theater Adventure

Between 15 and 24 November 2018, I had one of the most beautiful and educational days in Romania. I participated in the training course organised by Youth Alma Association, called "Drama Tools for Shaping Youth". We played a lot of energizer games, we learned new non-formal techniques, which I used while I visited the local schools with the organisation I am volunteering "Asirys". At the beginning of the training, we tried to know each other better while creating a path with our life in the last 5 years. I saw that I had a lot of commons with most of the people. But what will be unforgettable for me is a game in which we had to describe our biggest fear and our hero when we were children. The most fascinating was that with one of the 27 participants, we had the same fear and hero. We learned a lot about the 8 keys competences of the Youthpass certificate and we made a collage on the wall of the meeting room in which we were writing every day all the skills we

My second month as international volunteer in Romania

... So continuing my EVS trip in Tirgu Frumos. Thanks to Mihaela - the project coordinator, Dragoş - my mentor, Alin - my Romanian teacher and the volunteers of our organisation, Asirys, I had another wonderful month in Romania that passed so fast, full of new information, new pictures, new trips and many new friends. From the first days of the month we continued our cooperation with the local shop where we organized some meetings with the volunteers and discussed about the Greek intercultural day. We also started an event called "Thank God it's Friday", where we are presenting each Friday, European movies in our youth center for the volunteers and all people interested. The first movie we saw it was a German one which was followed by an interesting conversation about the message and what we can learn from it. During the weekend, I visited the botanical garden in Iasi and saw a lot of flowers and trees that grow in the country this season. The second week started with

How it was my On-Arrival Training?!

Imagine
I arrived at the Rin hotel i n Bucharest on the afternoon of 21st of October and from the beginning, I knew is gonna be a wonderful week! The first team I met w as the Turkish team and immediately I understood why I want to spend m y year doing volunteering in Romania! Everyone was so happy, we were chanting for hours telling about our lives, our differences, and our commons. We ended the day with a very interesting visit to the old center of Bucharest. We went to a T urkish corner and we ate baklava and drink tea, things that we both have in our countries! In the first day of the training, we played the game of representing ourselves and our names in a way that everyone would remember. It was a bit hard at the beginning to remember all the 25 names of the participants, but it was interesting the way everyone presented him/herself. Then we played a game in which we had to pick Dixit cards that were on the floor that represent us, we were walking around the room, discussed

October 2018: My first volunteering month in Romania

Imagine
As you may know, we are hosting at the moment our first EVS volunteer, Nikolia, from Greece. She will spend 12 months with us, helping to develop our youth center and create a more active community by volunteering! Each month our volunteer, Nikolia Papadopoulou will share her experience in Romania through a small report which we will post it on our blog. I will start my article sharing with you what I learned every week but firstly I would like to thank Mihaela, the project coordinator, who gave me the opportunity to learn all these things, to my mentor Dragoş who supported me, my Romanian language teacher Alin who helped and teach me the language and the history of Romania and to the volunteers of Asirys who helped walk in the EVS path. From the first week I learned from Mihaela a lot about Erasmus + programs, as she informed me about it and answered my questions. I met my mentor Dragos and talked about our cooperation during the program. Mihaela showed me the way to write yout
