Volunteers in quarantine

Imagine
I find myself in Târgu Frumos, a small city in Romania. I’m here with other three volunteers through the European Solidarity Corps programme and we will stay in Târgu Frumos until the month of October. As a lot of people, after the COVID-19 outbreak, 3 weeks ago we started the quarantine. We are not allowed to work in the city’s youth center and in the schools, so we spend all the day at home and in the garden; day by day, the quarantine has become a good chance to take time for ourselves, to do things we usually have few time to do and to invent a new ways to organise workshops and projects. We started to do different activities like gardening, drawing, singing or shooting workshops about health recipes, drawing and crafting; in order to publish them and stay in contact with the community. I like to describe with images what I see, trough photography we can make memories and we can learn something.  During these days I started to document with my camera the day routine: activiti

Nothing can stop true motivation

“I don’t want a goodbye party because I want to continue the activities here” said Nikolia some time ago, when she finished her EVS (European Volunteering Service currently named European Solidarity Corps) project of one year. And she did, because she has found a home in Romania, in Târgu Frumos. Nikolia came from Greece in an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange in 2018 called Rroma HeArt and she fell in love with Romania, the activities that we were doing at the Youth Center and the Super Tineri organisation. So she decided that she needs to escape her ordinary life and do something new, that would fulfill her soul and would help her grow both personally and professionally.   Back in Greece, Nikolia was unemployed and she says that she couldn’t find a job that she liked. She has been a volunteer in a youth center in Ioannina and the Red Cross, but she confessed that nothing was like the experience from Romania: “In one year I did completely new things than in my previous life”. She came wi

Testimonial: Process of Changes

Imagine
Yeliz, one of our partners, asked us few weeks ago if we can recommend one of our youth-workers to attend an Erasmus+ training course in Poland. We shared the Infopack of " Process Of Changes" project  in our group and Florin Păduraru, who has 5 years since he started coming to our youth center, said yes! Last days he came back from the mobility and he shared with us that this course changed his life, in a way that he realized his biggest dream is to work in a NGO. More about the learning experience, in his testimonial.  Every project that I was part of, changed something in me and made me a better person but the time spent in Jaworowy Dom helped me realize all of the changes that occurred in the past years in my life and also made me aware that I'm so much different than the person I was thinking I am. When I was heading for Poland I didn't know that such a big impact is heading towards my life. To be honest the first thought that came to my mind when I first

Volunteer in Greece: First week of the year for a volunteer

Imagine
I entered in a new year abroad, for the second time in my life. How I felt? Well, I felt loved and lucky, thankful for what I was given and feeling a lot of love from and for my dears’ ones. I felt that I was left here for enjoying and for feeling the difference. I started the year full of hope, I started the year with the desire of making a change and trying to have a positive impact in the place wherever I will be. The first week with the children started full of hope and good energy. I felt for the first time in all these months that my work matters. This time I did not try to force myself to do something special, I was just spending time with the children and speaking half in Greek and half in English. Yes, I become more self-confident of speaking Greek and the children not only help me, but also started to speak in English too the words that I was translating to them during the games. It was amazing for me. We were playing, doing paper boats together for them to learn the colors,

Volunteer in Greece: New month, new vibe

Imagine
December started with me remembering about my country, this time because the 1th of December is Romania’s National Day. I felt good to realize that I am part of a nation and that I had the chance to see a broader picture about the world and the world’s problems.   In this month I had set the goal of being useful in any way I could. So, I started. The first thing that I was doing was helping one of the formers social workers from the House of Arsis to paint a wonderful tree. From my point of view this tree is the tree of hope because on one hand it is in a place where many children are finding their hope for a better life and in the other hand because it has been painted in December the month when we are full of hope for a better upcoming year.   The social worker that I was working with the most, Maria, came with some great ideas for Christmas decorations so I helped her doing these with the children. In this way I could see how she talked to them and how she proposed the activities to

Shake your comfort zone, dance the experience!

“Romania? What is Romania?” Ebet asked herself before taking the decision to come and spend in Târgu Frumos eight months of her life. She’s 29 and came from Mexico for the Arts Lab project, supported and financed by Erasmus+ and implemented by ASIRYS Super Tineri NGO. In Romania was cold at that time and that was the very first thing that hit her here, but the friendly people who welcomed her in the community made Ebet feel a warmth that eclipsed the winter weather. “With me, all the people were polite and gave me attention” she said smiling happily, recalling the nice moments spent here. Ebet Nathanael Bautista studied Communication Sciences for four years in Mexico, but her burning passion is dancing. She started at 17, learning at the Royal Academy of Dance in Barcelona and now she knows jazz, ballet classic, contemporary, belly dance, medieval, ancestral, traditional Mexican and learnt the traditional Romanian dances as well. She came in Romania to discover more dances and to expe
