Arts Lab 5.0: Hajer Ben Hadj Sghaier, Tunisia - Month 5

Imagine
In the fifth month of volunteering in Romania, I traveled with my group to Bucharest for the midterm training, and we stayed in a hotel with other volunteers from various organizations. After that, I traveled with my friends to other places in Bucharest to discover the sights. We went to Sinaia, one of the most beautiful places in Romania, where there is a great palace, a wonderful monastery, and an ancient church. We also visited many museums. Also, in this month, we went to Pașcani to learn traditional Romanian dance from a professor. I should also mention that we hosted four cultural nights: Bolivian, English, Turkish, and Ukrainian. It was truly amazing, almost like traveling through these countries. Furthermore, we visited a special artist who has a great museum in his house. He has many amazing canvases depicting Van Gogh in his village, Jesus or God. I will never forget this moment. Yes, also in this month, I did a residency at a school focusing on Rroma culture. In the fourth month of volunteering in Romania, I experienced many amazing events, the most important of which was celebrating Christmas in a very special way. We exchanged gifts and also had a group dinner, making it one of the most beautiful events I have ever experienced. I also spent ten days in the hospitality of a Romanian family, and it was more than a wonderful experience through which I learned many Romanian customs and traditions, the language, and got to know the most delicious dishes. I also shared some Tunisian dishes. This experience was one of the best I had here because it was full of emotions. I don't really know how I will leave Romania; it will be difficult because I feel that I have completely connected and harmonized with the place and the people. This month also included the German Cultural Night, which was good and taught me a lot about Germany and its customs and traditions. On the other hand, I had another interesting experience with children with special n

In the third month of volunteering in Romania, I experienced many interesting and exciting events, the most important of which is the Egyptian Cultural Night. There, I tried Egyptian cuisine for the first time in my life, especially Elmahchi and Mesakaa. It was also a good opportunity to get to know more about the local volunteers. On the other hand, I introduced my country, Tunisia, and our cultural diversity, history, and presented some dishes from the Tunisian kitchen, such as Couscous, Mloukhiya, Brik, and Rfisa. I also went with Carla and Dajana to shoot in the forest. The weather was cold to death, and there are no words to describe it, but we were able to complete the filming, and the results were wonderful. We also carried out an activity in school about the Cucuteni civilization. It was a good meeting, and the children loved imagining and drawing ceramics and vases. The place outside was very beautiful, covered with snow, and we had a lot of fun. This month, we also prepared t

After two months of volunteering in Romania, I have discovered more and more the historical and cultural side of Romania. It is truly amazing how the Cucuteni community experienced such a degree of development, especially in ceramics and tool making. Through my experience with Asirys association, I discovered not only the history, but also the social, especially the anthropological, aspect of this society through its social structure. I imagine it was a matriarchal society par excellence, as well as special knowledge of daily life, such as dress and lunch. I transferred my knowledge that I had previously acquired and taught it to children when I volunteered in one of the schools in Târgu Frumos by practicing art, including by designing and sewing clothes and baking bread inspired by the Cucuteni community. By attending a ceramics workshop, I discovered my talent for sculpting, and that was one of the nicest things I have ever experienced. I participated to a lot of caravans and did se
