Arts Lab 3.0 - Kubra Akarsu - We're famous now!

Imagine
Our visibility in Târgu Frumos increased a lot in March. We're so famous now! :)) We facilitated workshops about volunteering for over 180 students from three schools in Târgu Frumos. We shared our experience in Asirys and talked about the importance of non-formal education. In my workshop, I engaged youth to speak about the volunteering values, and I believe this activity was really beneficial. We also tried to clean the Cucuteni garden by going to the village of Băiceni during this month. Even though there were few moments in my life when the earth touched my hands, I cut trees and fought with grass. Although this is not a pleasant job, I realized that sometimes it is more important with whom you do what you do than what you do. Thank you again to everyone who helped us, for making it more enjoyable. At the end of March, we had the opportunity to meet different organisations with an event prepared by our local volunteers. On the same day, we had the night of France and we had a p

Arts Lab 3.0: Kubra Akarsu - Shortest month of the year

The opening of the Cucuteni Museum, which we have been working on for a long time, the Latvian night, the Romanian night, the trip we made with our big local volunteers team, the departure of Krista and Leire, whom we have been a family for over 6 months, meeting our new French friend... This is how much we have packed into the shortest month of the year! February was an extremely active, extremely funny, and extremely sad month for me. We opened our Cucuteni Alternative museum, on which we have been working for 3-4 months, and we received very good reactions. Apart from that, we received the support of ''Alexandru Ioan Cuza'' University Museum to host our alternative exhibition, and we had the chance to meet over 30 history students and present our work. For me, it was a moment that showed that all the tiredness and efforts was worth it. After the reactions I got while I was stressing about how it would be, I made sure that we were doing good things. It was an incredib

Arts Lab 3.0: Kubra Akarsu - Patterns & culture

Imagine
January has been the busiest month for me. I returned from Turkey where I spent my holidays with my family and got sick with Covid. As soon as I arrived in Romania, I immediately started working at the Cucuteni Alternative Museum. I had to give all my energy to finish my own work. I made a ceramic model for Cucuteni village, I designed three Cucuteni architectural designs and I applied Cucuteni patterns on the existing modern buildings. I watched many documentaries and read articles to understand this culture. It was a stressful month, but it was worth the effort. But among all these works, the most important thing for me was to share my culture with people. We organized a movie night with the local volunteers and watched an important movie for all Turkish called 'Hababam Sınıfı'. I introduced Turkish culture with food, dance and songs. Actually, everybody had a little idea about Turkish culture, probably because of the Turkish volunteers who came before and the prevalence of T

Arts Lab 3.0: Kubra Akarsu - Cold, but full of life

Imagine
The farewell month of 2021 could only be this beautiful! I think I went through all the culture shocks and adjusted to them. An important moment of December was, of course, Christmas, and I had never celebrated Christmas before. In general, I knew as much as I saw from movies and TV series. For me was familiar that every place was bright and decorated. Instead, in Romania, I discovered a whole world: dance performances everywhere, singing Christmas carols, Christmas markets, gifts, mulled wine. I was really surprised by what's going on here. People in bear costumes danced on the streets, children started to sing all of a sudden in the trains, and people were walking around wearing deer crowns. Everywhere was so full of life that I felt very happy. I think I will remember these moments for the rest of my life. We organized a Basque night at the beginning of December, and I ate many traditional dishes, I danced and learned about a nation I didn't know much about. Also, the other

Arts Lab 3.0.: Kubra Akarsu - Exploring Romanian Culture

Imagine
The month of November has been a really busy and beautiful month in every sense. I started with a trip to Bucharest and this month I visited the cities of Braşov and Sibiu. So far my favorite Romanian city is Braşov. Dracula castle was the place I knew before I came to Romania. And finally I saw it with my own eyes. This month, we had the chance to go to ''Ion Creangă'' School and share our culture with Roma children and learn about their culture. We danced and played games together. It is really valuable for me that many children there love Turkish culture and share the words they learned from the TV series with me. There was even a Zeybek show! The subject of our next exhibition is Cucuteni. And we also want to create a Cucuteni Alternative Museum within our own means. The theme of Cucuteni was included in all the activities we did this month.  We continued working with Mr. Ciobanu on Cucuteni shapes and villages. We visited the Cucuteni museums in Iaşi with local vol

October was the month for me to adapt to the project, the country, and new people. We started with a busy period at the beginning of October. We prepared an exhibition with our other teammates by working on artworks depicting our personal idea about what is beautiful in Târgu Frumos, translated as ''Beautiful Fair Town''. By presenting our products to local volunteers, we understood each other better and got good feedback.  Right after, we visited the Cucuteni museum to gather more information about Cucuteni, the subject of the next exhibition we will prepare. This month, I met an artist and went to his house, and started participating in activities on drawing.  We organized a final exhibition for the Butea school, where the organisation did workshops for a long time. This event was an important one both for us and for the children we work with. Exhibiting the artworks they produced with us reinforced their creativity and self-confidence In this event, which we held wit
