Arts Lab Report: The last sound of music

Imagine
We started the month traveling to Piatra Neamț, where we visited the Cucuteni museum trying to learn more about this culture.  During the workshops we made a video-clip with the young people of the town, using a popular story inspired by “Cimitirul Vesel”. It was a success. We also continued our visits to nearby towns and villages with Arts Lab Caravan and we had the chance to meet new young artists and artisans.  I think that last month was a great experience for us because we tried to enjoy our time as much as possible knowing that it was time to go home. In this last month we have discovered new things and made new friends. Finally, the last week we had a trip to Iași with the volunteers to learn a little more about art within the Galleries Night exhibitions. We took the opportunity to record the video-clip of the Super Tinerii song that we will present the last day. I want to thank to the organization for all the moments lived and I hope to see you in the future. Written by Omar Fr

Arts Lab Report: Meeting local artists

Imagine
In August we did the on-arrival online training where we met many new volunteers, that we actually met at the end of the month.  We also participated in a very beautiful project called Folcloristica where we had to visit communities and do workshops with young people and meet local artists, it was a wonderful experience. In the first village we visited - Butea, we met Constantin, a very friendly musician and Maria, a local poet. The two of them sang a song about the village and how little by little it changed. In Oțeleni, we met a jive singer of traditional music and he sang acapela some verses for us. The third village was Feredeni where we met the artistic groups trained by Feredeni Parish. The youth choir "Grupul Vocal Hurgheșelul" transmitted us lot of energy. I am happy to discover that children and young people preserve the culture.  We presented our workshop to local teachers and it was a success, I presented the 20 beautiful things of Târgu Frumos and we also develope

Arts Lab Report: A July full of art

Imagine
In July started working with the new volunteers, doing workshops and getting to know each other better. We welcomed the new volunteers with workshops and lots of fun. It was a month of great progress after the time of the pandemic. I finished recording the first song of the “Resilience” project with the help of the music teacher Gisela. We started the project 20 beautiful things from Târgu Frumos. We went to take photos, we got up at dawn and we stayed up to see the stars so we could take photos and record sounds. Regarding the volunteers, we started the music classes, where I teached them how to compose a song. Now we are composing the anthem for Super Tineri. At the end of the month we made the exhibition of sounds and photos in a small activity with teachers from the area and we also started the long-awaited caravan. Anyway, it was a productive month and I am happy with how little I have achieved. In the end, vacations came and we traveled a lot, but that's another story! Writte

Arts Lab Report: Discovering Romania and its beauties

Imagine
June was a month of discovering Romania and make new friends. The situation with the virus improved, so we had the opportunity to go a little further from the city. The first week we had an approach with the Rroma community in a sector of Târgu Frumos and we learned how they live. We all went to see the abandoned Jewish cemetery and according to the inhabitants of the city, no one was in charge of that territory. We met with the children of the area and they taught us some places and a little of the Rroma language. The second week begins with the creation of crowdfunding, with the first song about my life and with the intention of deepening the music in Romania. I began to work with the Gisela, a music teacher, and her students. I learned a lot about Romanian music, its rhythms and melodies. Also, we were always meeting more artists. The third week was a week of recording and meeting new musicians to advance the project. I have walked through the city recording sounds. We visited the t

Arts Lab Report: Feeling closer to Romania

Imagine
This month in Romania was absolutely wonderful! The first week began with the training for volunteers in Romania. I met other volunteers, musicians and artists, we got together and wrote a song. We promised to see each other in the future and enjoy each other company. Even if the training of volunteers was online, I had a lot of fun and a new experiences.  The second week we started to leave home in order to visit new places. We went to Cucuteni to get to know a little about the culture. I listened to new music (my favorite musician is Florin Salam) and I was able to learn more about the Romanian language. I started walking through the city of Târgu Frumos and it was full of surprises. In Iasi I met Dragoş, a very special person on this trip, who was a street musician. We shared moments making music and talking a little. We walked as much as we could and met friendly people. The third week was important for me. I found a traditional Mihai Eminescu book in Spanish, so I could better und

Arts Lab Report: Volunteering in Eastern Europe

Imagine
It was really interesting this month for me, I learned more about Eastern Europe culture, about the way of living, how they are thinking and relate to other people.  I have tried to adapt my behavior to the society where I am living now (Romania), to understand the rules and I have also tried to talk with as many people possible to find out what are the common topics of conversation here.  Now it is much clearer for me how cultures relate to each other, why there is peace between some and why there is war among others, each culture has its historical reason. And everyone carry the culture in their ideas and their behaviors. Thanks to this I have learned to accept others who are different from me, and I am aware I am different as well and I want to make this culture part of me. So far, I was amazed about the number of similarities that exist between my country Peru and the Romanian culture. The typical clothing, the music and the way they solve things. The second week we started to reco

Arts Lab report: The monumental silence of everything

Imagine
This is my first month in Romania, before arriving in this country I had expectations of knowing the most beautiful places and sharing a lot of art with my new colleagues. The first week in Romania I have shared with Hanul and Mihaela very valuable time in the youth center, where we learned what our roles were and the things we had to do during volunteering. The second week, with the entire team of volunteers at home, we started to plan art workshops for the youth. I met my mentor Nikolia and Zaharias who is a love! We also learned about the importance of volunteering and we got to know new places in Târgu Frumos. The third week we were told that we could not leave home due to the contagion of covid 19 and since then we have been here at home all together doing daily activities. We have created a small garden with the experience of Deniz and we have made videos with the talent of Hanul. We have also done photography sessions with Eliana's super eye. These are days of not knowing wh

People of Arts Lab: Omar Franco

Imagine
I was born in a small city in central Peru. My mother had to wait a whole night of pain until I was born, on November 29. That day up in the sky the constellation of the crux could be seen that can only be seen in the south of the planet.  During my childhood I discovered music by the cassettes of Michael Jackson and the Beatles. The first color I remember is green and my first love was at 6 years old. I was escaping from school to eat my snack with my grandfather in a park.  In my adolescence I dedicated myself to extraterrestrial life, I found friends. Later, my will has been visiting new places. I learned to play the guitar and became member of the symphony orchestra of my city and I listen to Beethoven's music. I participated in events related to music, theater, art in my city and I was happy. My higher studies were journalism, marketing and audiovisuals. I discovered cinema. Finally I decided to go out and see the world and start traveling through South America, but that
