Arts Lab 5.0: Carla Ditmeyer, Bolivia - Month 3

Imagine
The third month was very interesting, full of trips and new experiences.  We traveled to Moldova which is one of my favorite moments. It was a trip of only girls and it felt amazing because of the beautiful energies that everybody radiated. We did so many caravans and it was challenging at first because I collaborated with Olha on this project and at first our ideas were too difficult to accomplish in just 20 minutes.  At the end we used my box of stories but Olha had the good idea to draw some decorations there live. It brought so much to the initial idea because with Olha it made it more expressive and more concrete. Their stories became a bit more elaborate and that made us very happy.  My favorite moments were in Puhăceni and Chișinau, despite their differences I felt very at home with both. Puhăceni and their people will stay in my heart forever and I hope they will create an amazing and well deserved cultural house for their expression to grow even more. That trip and the memorie

Hello again! Welcome to my third month report here in Romania. The third month started with an exciting trip to Moldova where we spent 5 days organizing workshops based on Romanian folklore. My workshop consisted out in learning Romanian folklore embroidery through playing the memory cards that I designed and also doing some drawings to either the Song Hora Din Moldova or Trandafir de la Moldova. But after some time we saw that we had a lot of drawing workshop so I changed it asking them what symbol and meaning they would pick to sew on their blouses to tell their life story or their wishes for their life just like the women in older times. They picked a symbol, drew it on a paper and wrote about their feelings and their symbol.  On the first day in Moldova we went to Fălești and visited an amazing local art school where we met the really nice and talented director and artist himself. We also visited a folklore museum with an amazing collection of historical and folkloric things such a

This month, we did very different things. Visiting the village of Cucuteni, I found the place very interesting. But I think that this one has been special because of the trip to Moldova—a super intense, nice, fun, challenging journey. I really liked going to another country, meeting so many people in colorful and rural towns. The food was amazing, and all the projects, conversations, and schools we encountered there, I take with me as an experience to remember. Even though it was very intense and tiring, sometimes not healthy, I loved the experience of the trip to Moldova; I think it was very enriching. When we arrived, we were very tired. In the following weeks, we were working on personal projects for the exhibition, which is now in mid-December. In general, I could say that I was disappointed with the second museum, about Cucuteni. Regarding the personal work for the exhibition, I was not able to finish it in time, and therefore, I did not feel comfortable with the work that I pres

Hello, I’m so happy to share with you the report of the third month of me here in Romania. I’ve made a lot of beautiful and few sad memories here and I really want to make more and more. I really can’t believe that three months have already passed, it feels like started yesterday. Anyway, this month has a lot to say as we started it in the hills of Cucuteni for a photo session for the next catalog. I remember that day was the first coldest day, we were literally freezing up there, also this month started with us learning how to make fire and it was very fun for me because I learned so fast how to make it and I was the responsible for making fire the first days till we spliced the roles. I also remember a day in this month where I experienced a lot, we went to celebrate the results of our first artist residency in Petru Rareș school where we danced and sing and had a lot fun with our students there. Also in the same day we went to students club where me and Muhammed performed a song. th

So the third month of my volunteering has passed. Oh, the horror. Let's remember what happened. 1) The dog went to Germany. 2) We worked for a whole week in Moldova. 3) We held another exhibition. 4) We held a lot of workshops. 5) It seems we got a cat. 6) I found a yoga mat and started practicing. In fact, it's hard to remember everything that happened. My days were so busy that everything blurred together. But let's go in order. So, the dog went to Germany. Now, one of the things that all the volunteers do for fun is to watch the videos that Dajana's family sends her. Good for him, what can I say. A week in Moldova. Oh, that week. Every day we spent the night in a different place. The schedule was like this: you wake up bright and early. You go to some village. In that village, they show you the district. Usually it's a church, a cemetery, some kind of administrative building. Then you conduct a workshop for children. You have 20 minutes for each group of 6-10 ch

In the third month of volunteering in Romania, I experienced many interesting and exciting events, the most important of which is the Egyptian Cultural Night. There, I tried Egyptian cuisine for the first time in my life, especially Elmahchi and Mesakaa. It was also a good opportunity to get to know more about the local volunteers. On the other hand, I introduced my country, Tunisia, and our cultural diversity, history, and presented some dishes from the Tunisian kitchen, such as Couscous, Mloukhiya, Brik, and Rfisa. I also went with Carla and Dajana to shoot in the forest. The weather was cold to death, and there are no words to describe it, but we were able to complete the filming, and the results were wonderful. We also carried out an activity in school about the Cucuteni civilization. It was a good meeting, and the children loved imagining and drawing ceramics and vases. The place outside was very beautiful, covered with snow, and we had a lot of fun. This month, we also prepared t

In November was the final event at Petru Rareș school where we gave the students certificates and got to revisit the art works we made together. It was the harvest festival so we got involved in traditional dances and there was autumnal decoration and food.  The most memorable moment of this month was definitely the week we spent in Moldova on the caravan. This was a very intense week where on the one hand we got to explore many new interesting places, meet new people and grow our experience, whilst on the other hand this week was very full on and tiring and it’s safe to say we came back to ACT house very glad to have a few days off! In Moldova there were many moments where I loved being with the girls as we had fun together traveling around in the van and the situations we found ourselves in (good or bad) for sure brought us all closer together. For me, one of the most beautiful moments was visiting a monastery in a cave at nightfall. The cave was lit by candles and a single monk was

This month has been very good for me. It all started when my friends went to Moldova while Hassan, Ahmed, and I stayed home to think and work on our personal projects. I began the process of writing the lyrics for a Cucuteni song. It was a bit challenging since it wasn't the first song I had written for Cucuteni, but I love writing songs, so I was enjoying my time. It took me five hours of direct focus to write the lyrics. Next, I moved on to the part I love, which is creating the melody or rhythm for the lyrics. Sometimes I make the melody while I am writing, or after I finish writing the song. Regardless, on the second day after completing the lyrics, I went to our ceramic studio to record the song. It took about two hours. On the same day, Hassan and I were preparing for the Egyptian night, so I couldn't work on the song. The following day, I started working on my favorite part, mixing and mastering the song with the instrumental. I finished it, but I had to make some edits,
