Arts Lab 5.0: Carla Ditmeyer, Bolivia - Month 2

Imagine
This is the second month in this project and it’s almost scary how I don’t want the time to pass by. After the first exhibition for the Alternative Museum of Folklore, it felt surreal how we managed to do everything on time. I saw everyone stressed and working day and night to make the project possible, so I hope people enjoyed the moment. I feel a bit exhausted but overall inspired since the second theme for the Alternative Museum is Cucuteni. We started our second residency that I did in collaboration with Dajana and honestly, we had a lot of good times. We combined natural arts made with elements like stones and sticks to paint them with Cucuteni Symbols. We unified all the painted and created elements to form a décor for a short film that will be focused visually on the archetypes of menstrual cycle and fertility which was so venerated in Cucuteni Culture.  Working with Dajana was very fun. We were already close before, but after passing some stressing moments, maybe disagreements

This month has gone by very fast, it doesn’t seem like long ago I was writing the first monthly report. Since the folkloric exhibition in our home we have begun the Cucuteni Alternative museum project, starting with an artist residency in another local school.  The group of children, Hajer and I had in our workshop team, were really amazing to work with, I enjoyed the residency very much and looked forward to going to the school each day! The children were very passionate and enthusiastic about learning crafts. We baked bread with them in the classroom, and along with Violeta made clay bowls, created dresses decorated with Cucuteni symbols and learnt print making techniques during the 6 days spent at the school. The experience had a very positive impact on me and the children’s energy was very refreshing and positive. I will be glad if they can come and see their hard work in the Cucuteni final exhibition.  As well as the work we are doing for the project I have become even closer with

Salut! I'm having a great time here in Târgu Frumos! I've been spending wonderful moments with my friends, making lots of memories. It's been my second month here, and it's been incredible to see the results of my hard work paying off both personally and professionally. The month started with completing a major project, a mural at Petru Rareș Highschool. It was a challenging and stressful project that took more time than expected. Although I'm always seeking perfection, everyone else loved the result, and I'm happy with it too. One of the good moments during this month was making a small surprise for Mihaela's birthday, although we celebrated it two days later. We went to a hill where we could see the entire Târgu Frumos and had a photo session for the catalog. We had the opportunity to host around 50 students from Iași and conducted workshops with them. It was an incredible experience, as they were lovely and most of them spoke English,  so we connected. I&

After two months of volunteering in Romania, I have discovered more and more the historical and cultural side of Romania. It is truly amazing how the Cucuteni community experienced such a degree of development, especially in ceramics and tool making. Through my experience with Asirys association, I discovered not only the history, but also the social, especially the anthropological, aspect of this society through its social structure. I imagine it was a matriarchal society par excellence, as well as special knowledge of daily life, such as dress and lunch. I transferred my knowledge that I had previously acquired and taught it to children when I volunteered in one of the schools in Târgu Frumos by practicing art, including by designing and sewing clothes and baking bread inspired by the Cucuteni community. By attending a ceramics workshop, I discovered my talent for sculpting, and that was one of the nicest things I have ever experienced. I participated to a lot of caravans and did se

Today I'm going to talk about my second month in Romania with the best friends ever. This month went by so fast. I still remember writing the first report like it was yesterday. Not much happened, but at the same time, it was enjoyable. I started my new workshop at Școala Gimnazială "Garabet Ibrăileanu" in Tg. Frumos. It lasted for only 6 days, but I met the best students. They were very funny, kind, smart, and had amazing singing voices. My plan was to give them an introduction to Cucuteni Culture on the first day, as well as to get to know them better. We played some music, and I asked everyone to sing for me. They were amazing. On Day 2, we started writing a song representing Cucuteni culture. I gave everyone a piece of paper and showed them some song examples I had written for inspiration. Then, I let them start writing. Once they finished, we tried to collect and choose the best sentences from each paper to write the first verse of the song. I also emphasized the imp

This month we finished the first museum, we had so many free days and we started with the second museum which is Cucuteni, doing the residency in a new school. To be honest, this month has been a little more complicated than the first one for me as I’ve been feeling a little bit bored, maybe because at our first month we’ve done so many amazing things and really intense like the festival and this month we’ve just been doing school residences. Finishing the first residence and museum felt really good and I’m proud of what we are creating together, I think it was a special moment for all of us and we’ve also celebrated. I’ve learned so many things. Something that surprised me is that I’ve learned to like cooking, as we had more free time I’ve started spending more time preparing good dishes and I really like how I’m improving my cooking abilities. Also I feel a lot more confident while speaking in English than when I arrived. I used my leading skills which usually I don’t like to use, bu
