Arts Lab 3.0.: Demet Durdu - September, cold & busy

Imagine
September was a sad month for me. The weather got cold, the greens turned yellow, and everything made me feel melancholic. With the cold weather, I am seeking for  warm places and in September was a bit complicated to find them. I am definitely not used with cold season, but I hope I will get used with it. That's the reason why probably I felt a bit home sick. Our 5th volunteer friend from Turkey joined us. I can say that speaking my own language with her saved me from feeling lonely. It was busy month, workshops, workshops, school workshops and exhibition preparations, all these activities were as intense as possible.  As we started to work to an artistic exhibition, I started doing research about the Romanian ceramic history. I knew that Romanian Cucuteni ceramics was famous. I researched in more detail and started to apply the patterns. I made experiments and I designed the patterns that were integrated with my work. I created the models. I embroidered the Cucuteni patterns I ma

Beautiful Fair Town: Demet Durdu, ceramist & glass artist

Imagine
In October 2021, we organized the second edition of the art exhibition: Beautiful Fair Town - Orașul Târgu Frumos. The event reunited 5 artists from Basque Country, Ireland, Latvia and Turkey, under Arts Lab 3.0, a project funded by European Solidarity Corps of European Union. The art works represent the beauty of Târgu Frumos, in the eyes of the 5 artists involved in a local 8-month volunteering program. How does an international group of artists perceive Târgu Frumos? What and where is the beauty of this small town? Here is the artwork of Demet Durdu, from Antalya, Turkey.  I am a ceramic and glass artist. Dealing with mud and glass allows me to embark on my inner journey. I am completely alone with myself and I use two wonderful materials, glass, and ceramics, to express my interior world. For Beautiful Fair Town exhibition, I got inspired by the Cucuteni patterns. You can see my minimal form works that I made with the sgrafitto technique. But besides the art works, Târgu Frumos in

Arts Lab 3.0.: Demet Durdu - Living my dreams

Imagine
It's been a month and a half since I came to Romania. Time passes really fast. I feel peaceful here. We spend our time with people I love and different activities. It is difficult to describe in detail every event held here.  To summarize, the Folcloristica festival was the most memorable event. Folcloristica lasted for 2 days in Ciurbești, and gave us a glimpse of the Romanian tradition and culture. It was very exciting for me to promote my own country and perform a traditional dance in a different country.  On the other hand, we also receive Romanian language training. It helps us to fit more here.  Târgu Frumos is a small town, but it surprises and delights me that people are so interested in art. The great interest in ceramics makes me even more committed to ceramics. I feel that I am living my dreams while dealing with ceramics.  Next month we will finally have an exhibition! I will adapt Romanian culture to minimal abstract objects. Come to our exhibition, let's live this

Arts Lab 3.0.: Demet Durdu - Sunflowers & green town

Imagine
Hello, I'm Demet. It's been 2 weeks since I came to Târgu Frumos. I was very excited when I first got off the plane. I was even more excited as it was my first international travel experience. I took another 6 hour bus ride from Bucharest to Târgu Frumos. The roadsides were full of sunflower fields. And it was green everywhere. I thought it would be very nice to live in this nature. There was a great emptiness and happiness inside me.  When I arrived to Târgu Frumos, Mihaela, Leire, Krista greeted me. I felt incredible relief when I saw them. Because they were so friendly. I got to know the environment. We started to make products related to the recycling of plastic at the youth center. In the week I arrived, people from different countries came with a youth exchange program. We became a large group.  We immediately started the project and made products from plastic bottles, and together we got to know Romania. Every evening we learned about the culture of another country. It&#
